Biltmore Village

ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

as seen inĀ Ruth's Christmas Surprise

Girl waving at readers in front of a snowy Biltmore Village scene.

Just outside the estate gates, Biltmore Village is the planned community Vanderbilt built to house estate workers and welcome visitors arriving by train. It's the kind of place Annie's own family, employed by the estate, would have called home. Modeled after an English country village, it once had its own church, school, hospital, and shops, all built in a matching architectural style. The Cathedral of All Souls, consecrated in 1896, still anchors the village today. Now a walkable shopping and dining district of boutiques and galleries housed in the original cottages, Biltmore Village retains its tree-lined streets and brick sidewalks, making it easy to picture the community Annie's family knew.
