Meet the Author Behind the Everyday Heritage Series
Dr. Kristin L. Redfield, a historical fiction children's author, writes children's books that bring history and life skills to young readers through the eyes of curious children discovering the world around them.
A North Carolina native with deep generational roots in the state, Dr. Redfield holds an EdD and brings almost 30 years of teaching experience to her writing. Under the Everyday Heritage Series title, she writes historical fiction that celebrates the places and people who shaped communities across North Carolina, from turn-of-the-century textile mills to what is often considered the grandest estate in America, introducing children to pivotal moments like the Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age. Her published titles, Ruth's Christmas Surprise (set primarily in North Carolina's Alamance County) and Annie's Christmas Invitation (set at the historic Biltmore Estate), are available now. Forthcoming titles include Gabriel's Great Discovery and The Key to Forsyth Tech, both set on the campus of Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston Salem and currently in review.
Through Redfield Educational Services, Dr. Redfield extends her work beyond history into social-emotional learning, giving children practical frameworks for navigating everyday challenges. She is also at work on My Own RAMP, an SEL storybook giving young readers a framework for working through overwhelming tasks.
Dr. Redfield's books span picture books for younger readers and chapter books for ages 7–11, making both history and personal growth accessible and engaging for a wide range of ages. Her stories feature meticulously researched detail, age-appropriate narratives, and genuine child perspectives that resonate with young readers and the adults in their lives.

The Everyday Heritage Series emerged from the need for immersive stories about historical locations — books that don't just teach history, but let young readers live it. Through the eyes of curious children discovering the world around them, each story balances adventure with historical authenticity, showing readers ages 7–11 how ordinary moments connect us to the extraordinary stories of the past. Designed for read-alouds or independent reading, each book invites adults and children alike to get lost in another time and place while still relating to the characters in the story.
Through careful research, every book is grounded in real places and real history, with back matter that helps readers separate the approximately 85% fact from the 15% fiction so the wonder never comes at the expense of the truth. Perfect for use inside or outside the classroom, each book offers readers a way to learn about historical sites that a traditional visit alone can't provide. Visitors to these sites will recognize the world they read about, and flipping through the pages of a copy helps make the experience last long after the trip ends.
