Biltmore House

Annie's Christmas Invitation centers on the grandest event of Biltmore Christmases—Annie's invitation to help decorate the towering Fraser fir inside Biltmore House's Banquet Hall. Completed in 1895 for George Vanderbilt, the 250-room chateau is still America's largest privately owned home, filled with the same soaring ceilings and Gilded Age grandeur Annie marvels at in the story. Today, Biltmore House is open for self-guided tours year-round, and its Christmas season (complete with dozens of decorated trees and a towering tree in the Banquet Hall, just as in the book) draws visitors from all over the country every November and December.
